A light for my path

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. These are the words that came to my mind when I "developed" this picture after visiting a home decor exihibition recently. It was getting dark, we were tired, and the woman wouldn't come out of the way, then I shot... and I have to admit that I appreciate the fact that she stood there. Sometimes life takes turns for the better or for the

Sleeping beauty

Another small flower... Sleeping grass, touch-me-not and sensitive are some popular names for this shrinking plant (mimosa pudica L. - known as dormideira in Portuguese). My kids were playing in an open field when they found the sleeping grass... and they had so much fun touching the leaves to see them fold. To see more beautiful flowers, please visit Today's Flowers.

Vertical Gardening

Look closely at this facade...it's not painted on-it's live! Have you heard of vertical gardening? In Europe, vertical gardening is suddenly all the rage. It's really nothing more than plants existing on a vertical surface. This storefront for Louis Vuitton is a great example.Vertical gardening takes very little effort once it has been put in place. Looking after it three or four times a year is

“The heart has reasons that reason does not understand.” ~ Jacques Benigne Bossuel

Happy Pink Saturday! Thank you Beverly at "How Sweet the Sound" for hosting.Welcome to my flower blog. This week I'm taking you on a garden tour. First stop; my rose garden! The more I garden, the more I realize roses are my favorite flowers. “The heart has reasons that reason does not understand.” ~ Jacques Benigne Bossuel, originally uploaded by Abby Lanes.Earlier this year, I added new

A really small flower

A delicate small flower spotted during a weekend walk with my family. All that grass around it made me think it was a grass floret, not sure though. This is my contribution to Today's Flowers. To see more flowers and visit other blogs, please pay a visit to them.

That Well-Travelled Bloom

Not that long ago, if someone gave you a bouquet of flowers, the selection would have been limited by the season and where in the country you were located. All that has changed, thanks to improved production and faster delivery options. Just a generation ago, most flowers you received would have been from the western and southern United States or from Holland. But consumers' taste in flowers has

A duck tale

Ducks in a quiet afternoon. I could just sit there forever taking pictures of them, but then they decided to jump... and I wasn't fast enough to capture the exact moment they jumped!

Mothers and roses

My son picked these flowers for me today... from my folder of photos on my computer! I asked him to help me with this special post. Mother's Day is celebrated today in many countries, including Brazil. Little fingers pointing to my computer screen and saying: "Momma I like these flowers" is priceless... I am the guest today at Today's Flowers! The wonderful team there has this weekly meme to

Cottage Garden Curb Appeal

"Cats never strike a pose that isn't photogenic." ~ Lilian Jackson Braun, originally uploaded by Abby Lanes.Nothing is more relaxing to me than walking my dog through my neighborhood, and studying my neighbors "cottage gardens." My home is a small 1950's ranch house, and as my rose and front yard wildflower garden grows and flourishes, it finally occured to me that I want a picket fence, and a

Wildflower Garden Experiment Update

all i need is a moment, originally uploaded by Abby Lanes (has Spring Fever). My wildflowers are in full bloom. This is a macro photo of one of the pretty blooms. This is the box of seed, and the flower's baby photos. :-) The box was $6 and yielded an entire wildfower bed beside my driveway, and around my rose garden.

Mother's Day

The May kits are up at My Creative Scrapbook! Since May is the month of Mother's Day I decided to make my album in honor of my Mom - and she's a great Mom too! I hate being so far from her :(This kit features Little Yellow Bicycle's "Zinnia" Collection and, as always, Pam did an awesome job of selecting some great embellishments to go along with it! On the third page of my album, I made a little

La fiesta

Even though Cinco de mayo is not celebrated here, I have friends who have just moved to Mexico and I am thinking of them today... Both their kids attended the same preschool as mine, and the little girl was in same class as my four year-old son until a few days ago, when they left... just before the swine flu outbreak. These pictures were taken at the International Festival last year and there

How to Be a Kitchen Sink Florist

Who doesn't love flowers? They add joy and beauty to any room, or even your office cubicle! Whether it's a giant bouquet of luscious hydrangea or one gorgeous long-stemmed rose in a beautiful hue, flowers are sure to brighten anyone's day.But I often hear this same lament: "I'm not creative". Or, "Flowers just die when I get them home". Neither of these has to be the case, and with just a few

Bottles with a purpose

A bouquet of freshly picked flowers (gerberas) and reused bottles.... This is how I decorate my place: with clean bottles of wine and olive oil...A late contribution to Earth day... these flowers go to Today's Flowers that display the most gorgeous flowers around the world on a weekly basis. I'll be the guest on May 10th, so watch that space!
